I was looking for H&R Tax Software and came across this that got 400+ TU’s last month. Figured I give it a try, and lo and behold it still works! Maybe it expired but is now ALIVE again! Figure I share it for others to benefit. I got the premium + state for $14.95!
Copy and pasted Installation instructions from the original post. (Read afterwards on how to get the Premium + State for $14.95)
Install Process:
1. Download – The approx 510 megabyte HR Block 2016 ISO may take some time to download.

2. Mount or Uncompress ISO – The downloaded file is an ISO – a cd consolidated into a single file. Windows 8 and 10 will natively mount an ISO as a CD drive, just double click the downloaded ISO and it shows as a drive letter. If you don’t have windows 8 or 10 you need to extract the ISO to a folder on your system. Download and install a program like 7-zip to extract all of the contents of the ISO to a folder on your computer. Alternatively, you can use free software like Virtual Clone Drive (from elby.ch) to mount the ISO
3. Run the installer – From the mounted or extracted ISO run tcauto.exe or tccheck.exe
4. Checkout:
How to get the Premium + State for $14.95:

** Using your own HR Block 2016 CD:
Quote from gettingpoorer:

I was mailed an H&R Block CD in the mail, but the offer was crappy (Deluxe $24.95, Deluxe + State $34.95, Premium + State $54.95, Premium & Business $69.95).
What I did:
1. Inserted the CD (make sure CD autorun is not on).
2. Open File Explorer to look at the files on the CD.
3. If you only see one file on the CD, click on View tab of File Explorer and make sure "Hidden Items" is checked. Then you should see multiple files and folders.
4. Select all files and folders on the CD and copy them to a temporary folder on your desktop (for sake of example, will use TC2016).
5. Download the application.xml file outlined in the OP.
6. Go to the TC2016xml folder and replace the application.xml file with the one you downloaded.
