Does not need 9 AA bateries to operate
There are a lot of cheap flashlight on market today but I had been looking for a larger name band light that would last more than and 1.5 hours and use AA batteries. The light works well but because of the low low price and China made don’t know how long it will last thus the reason for only 4 star rating. This is not a top of line flashlight and I does have a plastic lens but for $9.30 if it last a year I would be happy.
The package states, needs 9AA batteries. Not true, because the batteries are placed in three rows of three batteries. The batteries in each row are in series which gives you the required 4.5volts to 4.6volts to operate the flashlight. Each row is paralleled with the other row to give you the large capacity to operate for 5.30hours @ 1000 lumens (high Beam) and 25hours @ 318 lumens (low beam).
Another nice feature is that you don’t need to fully turn the flashlight on to select the high or low modes. If you just de-press the button a little the you can see which mode you are in, then fully press the button to operate in that mode. This is a nice feature because it helps safe the switch from over use. Here are some simple calculated run times based on their claimed figures of 9 AA batteries but using fewer batteries (not tested). 3 batteries (1.8 hours@ 1000 lumens, 8.25 hours@ 318 lumens), 6 batteries (3.60 hours@ 1000 lumens, 16.5 hours@ 318 lumens). Don’t let the price discourage you. For $9.30 including batteries I’m buying two more.
