This makes absolutely no sense to me, but I’ve been keeping an eye on the Werner 3-step 225-lb version of this for several months, waiting for it to go on sale from it’s normal price of $50.
I was in Lowe’s today, and noticed they had two rows of them, and one of the rows was marked as $37.82, while the other was the normal price of $49.97. However, the $37.82 price tag wasn’t marked as a sale or deal or anything, just normal price.
I finally realized they were two different models that look identical, and even come in identical packaging. The only difference is the model number and weight rating. Oddly enough, the heavy-duty version is cheaper than the medium-duty version:
Heavy-duty 250-lb version (model no S313P-2) – $37.82
Medium-duty 225-lb version (model no S323P-2) – $49.97 <= Normal price, not a deal
(FYI, their site says my location has 1 in stock, but I was just in there less than an hour ago, and there were probably 5 or 6 hanging there)
Things that are weird about this:
* If you search the Lowe’s website for anything like "Werner step ladder", the S313P-2 doesn’t come up.
* The only way to find it on the Lowe’s website is to either search directly for the exact model number, or to Google for it.
* These ladders don’t seem to be sold anywhere else or be listed on Amazon, so hard to comparison shop on the price, but I suppose the closest comparison would be something like the 250-lb Gorilla step ladder at Home Depot , which is $48.99.
* The heavy-duty version is cheaper than the medium-duty version, but it’s not listed as a "New Lower Price" or sale item.
* The heavy-duty version has a lower model number than the medium-duty version.
Maybe it’s an older version or something, but I stood them next to each other in the store, and the two models look absolutely identical in every way except for the UPC, model number, and weight rating.
