Spirit Airlines, an ultra low cost air carrier, have "bare fares" travelling to and from New York (LGA) and Chicago (ORD) for $78. This is nonstop service.
Please note that with Spirit, your bare fare only includes air transfers and 1 small personal item (purse, small backpack). Carry ons will cost extra.
Travel availability:
Departs LGA: April 18, 19, 25, 26; May 2, 3, 6, 9, 10, 16,17
Departs ORD: April 25; May 2, 6, 11, 13, 16, 20
Use those dates and plug into Priceline to book. Hurry because other sites raised it to $96 in the middle of me verifying. Priceline is still good for $78 as of now.
