I say this is YMMV because I am not seeing this on all orders. Sometimes it is $3 Amazon credit sometimes $1 digital credit. I’m guessing it depends on what the item is and what Amazon’s cost of providing 2-day shipping is. For instance, large items or items far away might get $3 while smaller items or items at nearby distribution centers might get the digital credit. Just speculating.
In any case, if you aren’t usually enticed by the $1 digital credit or the $5 Pantry credit, keep your eyes peeled for this offer because I think most people would be down for the free cash.
Pro tip: If you are ordering multiple items, break them up into individual orders to see if you get multiple $3 offers.
