Here is a quick run down of how it works. Cloud Sites provides a Cluster of servers to serve your application (PHP, .NET, or NodeJS) and then puts that behind a loadbalancer. We then have mysql/mssql replication on our backend, so not only do you have a fully redundant environment. We also have an environment that will handle your traffic at 2 hits per second, or 200 hits per second.

Apparently they were built and previous owned by Rackspace, and were a high quality product, but fit a different niche than they currently serve.
Not only that, they don’t charge for the "auto-scaling" functionality, only overages. So if you use more than 50 GB of storage or 1TB of bandwidth, you will have a very minimal fee.
Oh by the way, the thing that sold our company on this, they have allow you to be a reseller with no contract. So you can add as many sites as you want, as many clients as you want with no stupid "bundle" fees. Plus they have Partner and Affilliate programs so you can potentially get your hosting for free.
