The PM961 performs about 10% slower than a 960 EVO. Given current SSD prices, this seems like a great deal to me. New 1TB SATA drives are ~250, new PM961s are , and 960 EVOs are $400.
I wouldn’t be too worried about drive wear. Being a OEM channel consumer-level drive, these are probably pulled from returned laptops and not servers. Mine came with 50GB read and write, a handful of power cycles, and a single power on hour. Newegg claims 90 day warranty, but being an OEM channel drive and refurbished at that, I’m skeptical. Samsung almost certainly will not warranty the drive, the only possible warranty would be through Newegg’s (unknown) refurbisher.
Performance is top tier – the only drives that beat this are the other Samsung NVME drives (960 EVO/PRO, SM961), and not by much.
