First, as a non existing XBOX Live member use Microsoft ‘s $2 1-Month (It will automatically do 2 months, adding a month for free as it turns on reoccurring payments)
Turn off reoccurring payments.

When you use them it’ll prompt you to turn on reoccurring payments for a free month of xbox live. It only prompted me once.
In the end I had 9 months of Xbox Live for $23
