Credit Freezing and Thawing will be free starting 9/21 (by law)

A new law coming into effect Friday, September 21st, mandates that the three credit bureaus – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion – must provide free freezes and thaws of your credit report from here forward. Previously there was a $10 fee in many states to freeze or thaw your credit report.
If you didn’t already freeze your credit reports after last year’s Equifax debacle, it would be good to do so starting Friday or later. Similarly, if you’ve passed on a applying for a new credit card due to the fee for thawing your credit report, you’ll be able to do so at no cost from tomorrow on.
