In a nutshell, this program is a prepaid energy program where you pay as you use your energy vs a bill at the end of the month. When you sign up , they are offering to initially fund your account with $30 in credits. It is for Michigan Consumers Energy customers for the electric service. I only have electric with them, so I cannot tell if they do it for gas customers as well.
I do not quite understand what they get out of this, perhaps saving money on the monthly billing process, but $30 is $30. From what I can tell, your energy rates etc.. stay the same, it is just how the account is funded that changes. A couple of issues, if you have auto pay, and budget billing, you will need to get that removed first, as they cannot switch you over until that is gone. Also, I had "green generation" blocks on my account (solar energy blocks of energy) that had to be removed as well. When I called the number on the link I shared, they were clueless on how to remove them. So I sent consumers a Facebook message, and within a day, I had a guy calling me back who took care of everything.
So as long as you do not have too many fancy programs on your account, it is a fairly smooth process. But you may have a little extra work if you do, but it is not bad. Enjoy!
