I wouldn’t necessarily consider this a "hot" deal, but ScanSnaps rarely go on sale. Through March 31, there is a $50 visa card rebate offer. The rebate terms don’t mention any specific stores. So, it looks like you can buy from anywhere that is an authorized seller if you happen to find a lower price.
The rebate looks like it doesn’t require mailing anything in. Scans are requested instead. They even joke about using your new ScanSnap to do the scanning.
B&H Photo has it for $420, which is a typical good non-sale price for this item. I got free expedited shipping and it looks like this item qualifies for that in all of the contiguous United States. B&H links to the rebate directly from the product page. So, I’m confident they are an authorized seller.

ix1500 is the replacement for the ix500. Some Amazon reviews are unhappy with the ix1500 compared to the ix500. One was unhappy about the new software. Another thinks build quality may have declined. But there are other reviews that are very happy with it and the PC Magazine professional review didn’t complain about build quality. Plus, ix500 is discontinued and out of stock at all the places I looked, except for refurbs.
