Chase Freedom Q3 2019 Categories Announced: Gas Stations and Streaming Services

Chase has announced the 5% categories on their Freedom card for the third quarter of 2019:

  • Gas stations
  • Streaming services (includes Netflix, Hulu, Sling, Vudu, FuboTV, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Pandora and Spotify)

Gas stations is always useful. Some gas stations sell gift cards too, making it easy to max out the category. Not sure how many people will switch their subscriptions for the quarter; some people might use Blue Cash Preferred which began offering 6% on streaming services recently.

This isn’t showing publicly yet, but was released to some media/affiliates, apparently. As always, this will run from July 1 – September 30, 2019. You can still take advantage of Q2 2019 categories which are grocery stores and home improvement stores.

My local chevron sells gift cards including its own chevron gcs, but you can already get 5x on a similar selection of gift cards through ink/staples. I guess this is good for someone without an ink…

Thanks Chuck. Was just searching for this all over the web this morning and saw only Q2 information. Assume that Costco gas won’t count.

“Gas stations is always useful.”

Not for those of us with EVs.

Drive your EV to the gas station and buy gift cards. Problem solved.

Ah gas is useless these days if 7/11 doesn’t code properly. they should do PayPal like Discover.

Gas stations will help come 7/1 when Illinois adds their 19 cents additional gas tax. 🙁

Among ideas that occur, try Sheetz, Valero, & Wawa. (as always, try small test purchases, if they let you with a cc, then see how it codes & let us know)

I already get 5% on Netflix via my wife’s Cash+.

Gas station is ok – we spend roughly $200 / month on gas. I’ll just have to be more proactive in filling up my wife’s car. Some local Speedways carry $200 VGC, but after the fee ($4.95 I think) it makes the cash back only about 2.5%. Which is still better than 2%, but not sure if it’s worth the time and effort.
