Description
Zoom on the Ford FG11050PBE
In summary, the Ford FG11050PBE is a powerful portable generator especially useful for:
- Prudent homeowners who want a backup power source in case of a power outage
- Professionals who want to ensure that a power failure will not prevent them from working
- RV travellers looking for even more independence
In the sections ahead, the power characteristics, availability of various outlets, the portability, and any additional features of the device shall be discussed, including its emission compliance information.
Power & Run Time
Thanks to its dual-fuel technology, the Ford FG11050PBE delivers 120/240V and offers power and versatility. When gasoline-powered, it benefits from a running wattage of 9,000W and a peak wattage of 11,050W. When propane-powered, it has 8,550 rated watts and 10,500 peak watts.
Ford’s patented Switch & Go technology allows you to switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running.
Enjoying a noise rating of 78 dBA (less noisy than a shower), this generator can be started thanks to a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also to a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included).
With a fuel capacity of 6.6 gallons, the FG11050PBE can operate for around 9.5 hours at 50% load using gasoline (fuel consumption around 0.69 GPH), or for around 8 hours (on a 20 lbs tank - propane consumption around 0.59 GPH) using propane.
Outlets
The control panel features the following 6 AC outlets:
If you own an RV with a 50-amp service, you can consider this Ford unit as RV-ready, as it features a 14-50R outlet. Its L5-30R receptacle can also be used for a simple RV connection with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor.
Portability
The Ford FG11050PBE has a conventional, open frame design, of the following dimensions: L30 x W29.3 x H25 in, which offers support and allows it to be raised above ground level. The generator is designed for ideal use outdoors and in rough environments.
While the generator is considered to be technically 'portable' (in the sense that you can move it), manually lifting and transporting it may be challenging, due to its high weight of 211 lbs. However, this lack of maneuverability is compensated by its wheel kit (⌀10") and its folding handle, with which you can conveniently shift it, once it's on the ground.
Features
The control panel of the FG11050PBE includes a digital data center, which assists you in monitoring its status and activity, as it provides information on the lifetime run hours.
The fuel level of the generator can be determined quickly, easily, and conveniently with the help of its built-in fuel gauge.
From a security point of view, the generator is equipped with an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), giving you a peace of mind during use.
Besides the classic documentation and an owner's manual (opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, the Ford FG11050PBE also comes with some accessories: oil, tool kit, funnel and propane hose are included.
Emissions
The Ford FG11050PBE is EPA approved, but NOT CARB-compliant. Thus, it cannot be purchased or sold in California.
However, it features a spark arrestor, so it is adequate for use in forested areas.

The Ford FG11050PBE versus other generators
The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how some of the key specs of the Ford FG11050PBE compare to dual fuel generators of similar power (between 8500 and 9500 W).
- Regarding its weight, the Ford FG11050PBE only weighs in at 211 pounds, which means it's one of the lighter dual fuel generators in the 8500-9500 rated wattage range. If you are concerned by weight, one of the champions in the above-mentioned power range is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, with a dry weight of just 187.4 pounds.
- This generator, with its lowest possible noise rated at 78 dBA falls into the more noisy category, compared to other devices of a similar running wattage. If you’d prefer a less noisy device, one of the most quiet devices, which share the same power range with this one, is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, whose lowest noise levels reach just 64 dBA.
- Offering around 9.5 hours of running time on a full tank at 50% load, the FG11050PBE is within the average autonomy range of similarly powerful dual fuel generators. If concerned with autonomy, one of the products of a comparable power output, which offers the highest run time, is the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, boasting with around 12 hours.
- Run times are important, yet thanks to their dependence on the fuel capacity, they should be judged along with the fuel consumption of the device. This generator, with an estimated fuel consumption of just 0.69 GPH (gallon per hour) at 50% load, is one of the more fuel efficient generators, for the previously mentioned wattage range. If fuel consumption is your top priority, we suggest to check out the Westinghouse iGen11000DFc, which has a fuel consumption of only 0.66 GPH and thus, is one of the most efficient devices in our database.
Price comparison
As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 8500-9500W dual fuel generators, the Ford FG11050PBE is on the average side of the price range.

About Ford
Even though Ford is most commonly known for Henry Ford's Ford Motor Company, the historically renowned US-based car manufacturer founded in 1903, its trademark appears on various other products, including power equipment. Ford Power Equipment sells affordable portable generators, water pumps and pressure washers. While generators are licensed under the Ford trademark, they are in fact manufactured and distributed by Pulsar Inc., which manufactures its products in Asia. However, the company promises great customer service, pre-delivery testing, and their products receive overall very good reviews.
Warranty Information
The Ford FG11050PBE is covered under a warranty for up to 2 years. This warranty may be limited and may not cover all parts of the generator.

How many hours can engine run before needing maintenance? (Asked May 21, 2020)
Engine oil should be changed every 25 hours, or once a year. The air filter, spark plug and fuel valve should be inspected/serviced/replaced every 100 hours, or once a year.
what has to be done to make it RV ready (Asked September 10, 2020)
A generator is considered "RV-Ready" when it features a TT-30R outlet. This unit doesn't have one, but an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter can be used. We invite you to read our definition of RV-Ready.
This generator has a 14-50R plug not a L14-30R. Can this be used to hook up to my house? (Asked September 30, 2020)
You can use an extension cord similar to this one (opens in a new tab).
I just purchased the Ford 11050 duel fuel and now , Where can you find a 14-50 P to 14-50P extension cord ? Are you better off to just make one ? Need to go from the generator to a 50amp receptacle to feed a secondary panel in the house .. (Asked November 30, 2020)
14-50P to 14-50P extension cords should NEVER be used, made, or purchased. Any male to male extension cord is a fire hazard and thus, illegal.
What Octane level gasoline is required? (Asked December 06, 2021)
Gasoline should have a minimum octane rating of 87.
Specs. claim 8 hr. on LP gas but does not state quantity of LP Gas (Asked December 18, 2021)
It's written in the description, but not in the spec table. Per manufacturer specs, LPG runtime should be around 8h at 50% load, on a 20lbs tank. In reality, probably more around 6-7.
