      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Synchronic sets off on an intriguingly idiosyncratic sci-fi journey that should satisfy fans of Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson's earlier work.

MSR Movie tackles messing with time cleverly. Fun cinematic techniques, both for the visuals and the horrorific effects. I think the movie lands the ending and makes it more worthwhile for well executed story. Glad to see Anthony Mackie in a leading role. Folks might find this slightly reminiscent of his Black Mirror episode in light of the scifi elements. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/23/20 Full Review Santiago Blanco Good movie. Need to pay attention if not you will miss out.... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/23/20 Full Review Richard C The story moves quickly, keeping you engaged. Anthony Mackie was good in his complex role. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/21/20 Full Review James thought the ending came abruptly and film was too short. I don't know if its related to shooting schedules. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/12/20 Full Review Ben Y Fun, original movie. But really, I was just happy to be seeing something in the theaters! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/10/20 Full Review NoArk Love it!! Had a little Back To The Future and Inception feel to it. I was entertained and enjoyed the skill of acting and vision. David Stratton The Australian Mackie and Dornan do their best with their intrepid characters (though Dornan is sidelined for much of the time), while the women have little opportunity to register as interesting characters. Rated: 1/5 Feb 27, 2021 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) Less successfully realized is the bond between the two heroes. Dornan is not as badly miscast here as he was in Fifty Shades of Grey, but Dennis is never a terribly engaging character. Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 10, 2021 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review A sci-fi inflected story...this might be the least successful of the creators' films, it does look a bit on the cheap...the initial idea is really interesting, but when you get down to it, it's a straight-to-video B movie... Feb 9, 2021 Full Review Bethan Ackerley New Scientist Benson and Moorhead have still created a grim, uneasy thriller with genuinely hair-raising moments. Jul 19, 2023 Full Review Dallas King Flick Feast Benson and Moorhead have a visual style full of creativity and flair... Sequences in Synchronic are immersive and suitably hallucinatory. Rated: 3/5 Nov 12, 2022 Full Review Cris Kennedy The Canberra Times (Australia) There is humour in the screenplay, but also serious socio-historical ideas about the way a young black man is seen across different eras.
