The Legendary Sound of an Acid Icon

Hearkening back to the genesis of electronic music, the Behringer TD-3 analog synthesizer and sequencer produces the throbbing rhythms and greasy bass sounds that have defined electro-funk, acid, techno, and house for the last 30 plus years. The TD-3 is an authentic interpretation of its iconic predecessor, with an all-analog signal path, a 16-step sequencer, transistor wave-shaping circuitry, a built-in arpeggiator, and a four-pole resonant lowpass filter that oozes with character. When the techno and house producers at Sweetwater got their hands on the TD-3, there was no stopping the funk! Grimy, squelching, and unapologetic, the TD-3 is a retro-style groove machine reincarnated for contemporary producers and sound designers that you’re sure to love.

Unmistakable analog attitude

The Behringer TD-3’s signature growl and punch start with an authentic analog VCO. Select between a biting, aggressive sawtooth, or a bright, resonant square wave to lay the groundwork for your synth bass creations. Then twist and morph them with the TD-3’s four-pole resonant VCF until they bark, squawk, and shriek. And for total dystopic synth chaos, hit the drive switch and watch your listener’s faces melt.

Powerful and intuitive programming

Programming the TD-3’s onboard 16-step 7-track sequencer is a cakewalk. Compose your patterns in Step mode or use Keyboard mode to play and record them in real time and save up to 250 user patterns for instant recall. Breathe life into your sequences with programmable accents and slides and manipulate them using the TD-3’s 11 controls and 28 switches for dynamic performances. And for even more soundscaping awesomeness, tap into the onboard arpeggiator to build complex, evolving melodies and otherworldly effects.

Link multiple modules with Poly Chain

The TD-3 is a tiny terror all on its own, but, with its Poly Chain output, you can link it to multiple modules for insane 16-voice polyphony. And it plays well with others, easily integrating into your existing synth rig and DAW via 5-pin DIN and USB-MIDI, as a master or slave module.

Behringer TD-3 Features:

  • An authentic interpretation of an iconic bass synth module
  • Single oscillator with switchable sawtooth and square waveforms
  • All-analog VCO, VCF, VCA signal path design based on legendary designs
  • Four-pole resonant filter to twist and morph your sounds
  • Powerful programmability, with 16-step sequencer with 7 tracks and 250 user pattern slots
  • Add depth and dimension to your patterns with programmable accents, slides, and real-time parameter manipulation using 11 controls and 28 switches
  • Link multiple modules over Poly Chain for up to 16-voice polyphony

St8 up analog bass synth

It's been fun learning the unique sequencer in this machine. I've mostly been playing it via midi when I'm actually working on something. Amazing bang 4 buck :D

Great bang for your buck!

I purchased this in August of 2021 and I've loved it ever since. Doesn't have the sonic versatility of a Behringer Crave or a Korg Volca, but in terms of nailing that classic Roland 303 sound, this synth does so with flying colors right out of the box. It may be made out of plastic, but it is a hardy and sturdy device - I dropped it off of my workstation (a good 5 feet from the ground) and I can't find so much as a scratch. For the price, this device is a must for any fan of acid/house/techno and I'm sure anyone who isn't familiar with this sphere of music will still have a blast with it. Roland 303 purists will likely only wanted the silver models in honor of the original, but as someone who's too young to enjoy an original Roland device with reasonable pricing, the yellow model with the "Have A Nice Day" acid smiley face is good enough for me.

Classic Tonage

This little box has a pretty nice array of tones for the price.

Nice 303 clone

These have been available in other colors for a long time. Was it worth the wait for bright yellow with the smiley face? YES.

I've only had my hands on it for about an hour. Well worth the price of admission. This is a really nice clone of the original 303.

My only (really minor) complaint thus far? The front end of a the envelope has a bit of pluck to it. It clicks. It tiny but I notice it. Quickly drowned out when you pen the the cutoff on the filter.

That said, I love it. It sounds fantastic. Really thick, up in your face. The distortion is SO great.

The build is solid for the price point. Its bigger than expected, I had Volca size in mind. This is as wide as Moog Mother 32, and has a larger footprint.

Small thing, but I love that the headphone jack is 3.5mm, and on the front. Nice to not have to look over the back to find a headphone port, and its a (pre-amped) potential feed into eurorack.

If you love the sound of acid, this is a very solid buy. The sound is excellent.

Classic 303 Sounds

To be honest, I bought this on a whim - I was recording a 'Cyberpunk 2077' inspired album and really needed something that did the 303 sound. I was trying to stick to hardware and analog synths, and this was all of $ or so. I figured I could use it, and maybe sell it afterwards for a little bit of a loss.

Turns out I love it. Is it crazy versatile? No, but maybe more than you'd think given the addition of effects.

Does it do the 303 sound? Nails it.

Some people have issues with the onboard sequencer (re: hard to figure out). I didn't have much of an issue, maybe 15 minutes learning how it works. It is super fun to dial in a sequence, add your accents and glides, and then just hit play and let it loop forever while you add other elements like a drum machine, pads with another synth, etc.

The onboard distortion is kinda so-so. It's okay and sounds pretty good (be aware, it kills ALL your bass frequencies. I found that I liked it best when I tracked twice - once with the distortion on, and once without mixed lower to keep the bass in). Even better if you pair it with other, crazier effects. I used it with Gamechanger Audio's Plasma Drive and it sounded perfectly unstable, electrified, and buzzy.

All in all, if you know the 303 sound and want to add it to your setup, this is an excellent option. The sequencer is nice, and the unit plays well by itself, with other gear (you even get CV ins/outs), and with a DAW.
