About this audiobook

Nightfire Books, a new horror imprint from Tor Books, is proud to present 35 audio-only horror short stories showcasing the breadth of talent in today's field.

Theresa DeLucci, editor of Come Join Us By the Fire, says, ā€œWe wanted this long list of stories to showcase the scope of modern horror, from the cosmic and Lovecraftian, the beloved undead tropes of zombies, ghosts, and slashers, to the more uncanny and internal terrors of isolation, lost love, aging, and one of the briefest, most distressing alien abduction stories youā€™ll ever hear (ā€˜No Matter Which Way We Turnedā€™ by 2017 Guggenheim Fellowship recipient Brian Evenson.)ā€

The authors also reflect the diversity of horror as a field, with selections from horror grandmasters such as Joe R. Lansdale; New York Times bestsellers like Richard Kadrey and Victor LaValle; exciting new voices including recent Bram Stoker Award winner Gwendolyn Kiste (The Rust Maidens), Cassandra Khaw, and Michael Wehunt; and literary crossover stars such as Carmen Maria Machado (Her Body and Other Parties), National Book Award finalist and winner of the the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction.

There's something for every listener, so come join us by the fire and hear tales not to tell against the dark... but to embrace it.

Great stories for fans of horror I'm a regular listener of The NoSleep Podcast and Cooling Takes for Dark Nights and these stories are just as good. My only complaint is that the chapters in the table of contents are numbered instead of giving the title of the story. After realizing that these stories were also available in single-story audiobooks, having the titles would have helped to find the duplicates in my library.

This collection of short stories is Tor Publishing boasting their catalogue of horror writers, yet this boast is valid as it is impressive. As for the short stories, like every collection, most of us won't like every single tale, but they are collectively delightfully weird. Favourites for me were Black Bark by Brian Evenson, Black Neurology by Richard Kadrey and Midnight Caller by Stephen Graham-Jones, but there are many, so many, more to draw you in. The best news is, the collection is free, at least on Google Play. You can get the whole lot or pick and choose. What more could you ask for?

This one has a large number of short horror stories that will save you the time of seeking out each one individually in the Google Play Store. A lot of them are misses, but some are hits. It was worth the value for being free.
