I’ve been wanting a video headset that wasn’t so damn bulky and more importantly wouldn’t look embarrassing in public. The Avegant Glyph AG101 Video Headset is the sleekest looking device that looks like Beats headphones (and you can wear it like one when you want to use it as simple wired audio headphones).
Originally a Kickstarter project in 2014, this was selling initially at $699, and it’s been selling on average at $499. However, I found a third-party seller that sells them new for as low as $199 on Newegg (and $249 on Amazon, though I can’t post their link due to guidelines for 3rd party Amazon sellers).
I was skeptical with third-party sellers, but since I had an Amazon gift card and they have the A-Z Guarantee, I ordered mine from Amazon and got a 4-year SquareTrade warranty to go along with it. Even with expedited shipping, it took a week for mine to arrive from CA to NJ. Interestingly, the Glyph I purchased from Amazon arrived in a Newegg.com shipping box and packing label, so I’m assuming it might be the same seller.
The version I received was the "Founder’s Edition," which means that it comes with a soft pouch instead of a hard carrying case, but the headset and accessories are identical and new. Photos of my Glyph I received yesterday here: https://imgur.com/a/KrI47
It’s a steal over what Avegant themselves sell it on Amazon for $499 (I actually bought mine from them first, only to get a used product, so I returned it and found this seller). I’m still able to register the product with their Avegant iOS/Android app, and update the firmware. Unfortunately, the Glyph no longer supports DJI drone head-tracking anymore, but I wanted to use mine simply as a display for my Xbox One and my iPhone (with the bulky Lightning AV adapter). It’s 720p but it’s damn crisp and bright. The headtracking mode for PC/Mac works, as the mouse pointer moves around when I move my head. I assume it will work well for first-person shooter games.
