Some people may already know this, but this is for those who do not.
For those people who miss out on AmEx offers, who live in Texas, New York, or Vermont, there is a way to get them without a hard inquiry or a credit card.
AmEx offers three pre-paid (reloadable) debit cards. These cards also have AmEx offers on them, just like the credit cards (although, I am not sure if they get all of the same ones).
Normally, these cards have a monthly fee (see below) unless you live in NY, TX, or VT, in which case it is free.
American Express Serve (The blue card): Normally $1/mo (free if in NY, TX, or VT or when direct depositing $500+ each month). Cash reloads in person in store are up to $3.95 for everybody. No Cash Back.
American Express Serve Free Reloads (The green card): Normally $4.95/mo (free if in NY, TX, or VT). Cash reloads in person in store are free. No Cash Back.
American Express Serve Cash Back (The grey card): Normally $5.95/mo (free if in NY, TX, or VT). Cash reloads in person in store are up to $3.95 for everybody. 1% Cash Back.
If you live in Texas, New York, or Vermont, there is no reason to get the blue card. You should get the green card if you want to re-load money in person or the grey card if you want 1% cash back.
If you do not live in those three states and you do not want to get an AmEx credit card, you could get the blue card and pay $1 per month or direct deposit $500/mo.
