For Cyber Monday (one day only), Newegg has the 1TB Intel 660p NVME m.2 drive on sale for $134.99. One of the only interesting items in their ad.
This is an NVME drive (rated 1800 MBps read/write), so in theory far faster than SATA SSDs – and it’s selling for a similar price. This is $135, while $128 deals on the good SATA SSDs are selling like crazy.
That said, the drive does come with its own set of quirks. Research before buying, but in a nutshell:
-This drive should benchmark much quicker than SATA based drives, but
-It’s QLC nand, which if you’re unfamiliar with, boils down to essentially…
-For extended writes of a ton of data (think 100GB video files), the drive will bog down to significantly slower speeds, even below that of SATA SSDs, and
-Longevity is decreased vs. other drives, though it should still be fairly irrelevant unless you’re writing vastly more data than the average consumer.
-Performance will also suffer if you fill up the drive completely, though it’s generally not a great idea to fill any SSD.
Still haven’t decided whether to pull the trigger myself, but this is certainly the cheapest price I’ve seen on a 1TB NVME drive (approaching that of the slower SATA drives).
