Hey Guys,
I ordered one of these two days ago. The price shot back up to $139.99, but now I see it’s back to $93.99.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/STANLE…e/26910099
It averages $128.99 on Amazon with and all time low of $99.99 there.
The early modern planes made had pretty spotty quality control, but according to most people Stanley has been doing much better.
The plane bodies are made in Mexico and the blades are made in the UK. I’d prefer a veritas (Made in Canukistan) or Lie Nielson (Merica), but I can’t justify the price difference. I don’t know why anybody would buy the more expensive Chinese made Wood River unit.
I snagged a Pre-WWII original at a flea market for $15, but the body has multiple issues and apparently even if you find a good bodied original, they are likely to have the throats chip out at some point so the modern units are suggested if you’re going to use them.
Happy woodworking,
TF
