I just did this myself and was able to trade-in a very old Verizon iPhone 4 and worked fine. If you don’t have a cheap trade-in phone on hand, it might be easier to just buy a really cheap one to do this deal. Last time this deal was offered, I was able to get a cheap Tracfone from Amazon and used that as a trade-in. Similar to the one below.
